Water damage can lead to secondary damage

Water doesn't just damage your belongings - it also causes serious property damage if left untreated.
We typically see mold growth within 72 hours of a water loss that wasn't dried properly. Or, in this case, a slow water leak that went undetected until the homeowner smelled mildew.
A quick check under the washer and dryer led to the discovery of the leak, which a plumber quickly repaired.
I would say SERVPRO of Lawton technicians immediately began the drying process, but this home was built in 1963.
So before any work could be done, samples of the drywall, taping materials and flooring were sent out for asbestos and lead based paint testing.
Once the results came back (negative on both), we could begin the restoration process.
Containment of the area was established to prevent contamination of other living areas, drywall and insulation were removed, as were the baseboards and flooring.
All told, the experts at SERVPRO of Lawton worked five days to completely dry and restore this home to a healthy environment.
